On the Fifth of November, the D’ Phis had their Fall Formal at Allegheny Grille in Foxburg, PA. The D’ Phis and their dates enjoyed a dinner together followed by a night of dancing. Fun ensued and many pictures were taken. Below is a picture of 18 out of the 19 D’ Phis plus our sweetheart and honorary D’ Phi, Andrew Graziano (Adelphikos).

Homecoming Weekend

Homecoming Parade

Just like last year, the women of Sigma Delta Phi built the float with the men of Delta Iota Kappa. This year’s theme for this year’s homecoming floats was board games. The D’ Phis and DIKs chose to build a float portraying the game, LIFE™. We built a spinner on the float, ordered pink ΣΔΦ shirts and blue ΔΙΚ shirts, made life tiles with witty phrases (GCC Alumn, Pledge D’ Phi/ΔIK, Ring by Spring, Dismiss Chapel, etc.), constructed career cards, and had several DIKs and D’ Phis dress up as couples throughout the stages of life and career women/men. Arianna Sternadori (Sophomore, historian) and Jennifer Coy (Sophomore) created choreography for us to dance to in the parade to “It’s my Life” by Bon Jovi. Everyone had fun marching in the parade and putting all the different components of our presentation.

Like previous years, the Sigma Delta Phi sorority had a tent on lower campus in the “Greek Village.” All the D’ Phis had such a splendid time sharing stories with D’ Phi alumns and their spouses! Also, as tradition mandates, we had chocolate covered oreos at our tent.

Sweethearting

This year, the D’ Phis sweethearted Andrew Graziano (ΑΔΕΛ) at our homecoming tent. Hoping to start a new tradition, we also creeked Andrew, who, like a good sweetheart, still loved us after the deed. We welcome Andrew to the prestigious position of Sigma Delta Phi sweetheart 2011-2012.

All of the sororities on Greek Life cheered for their new social members today. The D’ Phis are happy to announce the arrival of six new social D’ Phis: Gabrielle Ahrens, Erin Burlew, Jennifer Coy, Claire Healey, Andrea Rinald, and Leah Witthohn. All of us are so excited for this upcoming school year to better know our new sisters!

First Flag Football Game–VICTORY

The D’ Phis are huge participants in Women’s Inter-mural (IM) Sports. Melissa Breckenridge (Junior, Athletic Director) signed up the D’ Phis for the first Women’s IM Sports of the season, flag football. Soojung Lee (Junior, Vice President & Webmistress) is the Resident Assistant (RA) of the D’ Phi hall, 2nd floor Harker MAP side, which includes independents. As an effort to reach out to the independents on our hall, Soojung, with the permission of the D’ Phis, invited the independents on our hall to participate on our IM flag football team.

Today was our first IM flag football game, which resulted in a glorious victory for The D’ Phis and Friends. Some friends came out to cheer for us, and our chaplain, Catherine Haas, conducted our closing prayer after the game. We look forward to having fellowship with each other and the other girls on our hall throughout this IM sports season.

Block Party

D’ Phis attended the Block Party, a 90s themed event hosted by OB (Orientation Board). There was dancing, corn hole, hillbilly golf, and food! We all walked together to the IM room from our hall wearing our trads. It was a great time to talk and connect with other Greek groups as well as spend some time with some of our independent friends.

Mocktail Party

The D’ Phis hosted a Mocktail Party on South Patio (MAP). Potential socials were invited to partake in mocktails, non-alcoholic cocktails, and eat classy cookies with the D’ Phi girls. Allison Chandler (senior D’ Phi) bar-tended, and Caitlin Dodds (Junior D’ Phi rush chair) organized the socials rush event. It was a beautiful night of relaxing and chatting with the girls around the fountains with drinks and cookies, and we had a turn out of six girls, which is great!

Camping Trip

The D’ Phis went on a camping trip together to the Jamestown Campgrounds. It was supposed to be a 2 day trip spanning from Sunday, September 4th-Monday, September 5th (Labor Day Weekend). As it started to rain, as a group, the D’ Phis decided to drive back to campus rather than to stay in the rain. During this trip, we canoed together, made a bonfire, ate chips, hot dogs, pb&j sandwiches, and s’mores, and some of the girls went fishing. Allison Chandler’s (Senior D’ Phi) uncle, Bill, brought fishing equipment and oil to help our fire. Also, we ended up connecting with a GCC alumni, Camp Ranger Dan Hudson, whose wife was a D’ Phi. (D’ Phis are everywhere!) The night ended with some great storytelling around the fire and a fun drive back to campus!

Organizational Fair

The Organizational Fair is the beginning of the sorority presence on Grove City College. Today is the first day that all sorority girls are allowed to display their letters publicly on campus.

The D’ Phis set up and decorate a table in the IM Room with all our D’ Phi items. The purpose of this event is to talk to women about what the D’ Phis are about and to try to convince people to sign up for rush and look into Greek life.
